City Hall Station

Here I am at the City Hall Station
Some of you may be wondering how I got there!
Some of you may be thinking that there is no City Hall Station
Aha!
Well the short of it is that if you hang out with a subway buff you get to go to all sorts of weird places.
It actually was the original southern terminal of the IRT and opened on Oct 27,1904. It was used through 1945.
It was the showpiece of the IRT system and had elaborate archways, glass tile work and skylights and if you can imagine it brass chandeliers. No other signs like these were placed in the other IRT. stations of the era; the lettering is quite unique, as is the deep blue and tan glass tiling. The arched ceiling of the platform area has simple brass light fixtures along its length The station is closed but if you remain on an out of service #6 train you can make the loop around the track.
(how you do this is up to your ingenuity)
If you are really good you might be able to convince a motorman to key open a single end door and let you out onto the platform to experience the huge glass arches and tiling. They really are awesome. Or you can do what we did and take a wonderful tour with the New York Transit Museum.
